ICYMI: Hockey Halloween from the Preds

New, comment

It’s time to get spooky (clap, clap, clap, clap your hands)

NHL: Minnesota Wild at Nashville Predators Christopher Hanewinckel-USA TODAY Sports

’Tis the season for the best time of year, the holiday that trumps all others, an annual gift: hockey Halloween.

In case you’re unfamiliar, let me monster-mash it down for you.

Every year in October, your favorite tough, sometimes serious, focused hockey players take one night off from their regularly scheduled non-game night weekends and attend a team costume party. Think: the best party you ever attended in college, but if you were a millionaire with access to a makeup artist. These costumes are not your average Party City get-up-in-a-bag. These are thought-out, elaborate masterpieces—sometimes coordinated with a girlfriend or teammate.

The Predators held their annual team Halloween party Sunday event at FGL House in Nashville after their win (curse-breaking Saturday night) in Tampa, and they did not disappoint.

I’ve built this up fairly highly at this point, so without further ado, I present you: your Nashville Predators’ 2019 Halloween costumes (as seen on public Instagram accounts.)

Filip Forsberg

The currently-injured Forsberg attended the party as the permanently-emotionally-injured Jon Snow alongside his Queen Daenerys Targaryen. King in the North South!

Let’s hope their evening turned out better than Jon and Dany’s did in the end...yikes.

Austin Watson

The Joker and Harley Quinn partying like its 2016. What? No love for Joaquin Phoenix’s take?

Hippie Halloween ✌

The classics are classics for a reason: they work. Peace, love, and hockey pucks. Groovy!

Billy Madison & Veronica Vaughn

“That Veronica Vaughn is one hot peace of ace,” said Kyle Turris, probably.

The costume is fitting for Turris considering thus far into the season he’s taking opposing teams back to school, back to school to prove to them he’s not a fool.

Yannick Weber

there are two types of girls on Halloween

A post shared by Kayla Price (@kaylaapricee) on

O.K., technically Weber is not in this picture, but when you’ve got a sense of Halloween spirit like his fiancée Kayla Price (pictured here with Aleah Smith), you get your own spot in this list.

Holy moly, Stromboli! As Guy Fieri would say, her costume is the-bomb-dot-com.

For those wondering, Weber went dressed as a very glittery, baseball-uniformed Elton John — inspired by Rocket Man? — as seen in her Instagram story.

Roman Josi

Happy Halloween

Oh captain, my ship captain? Josi took to the high seas and brought back a face full of starfish, seashells, and coral to show for it.

ARRRR-guably the best pirate we’ve seen. How kind of him to bring back the two-point treasure from Tampa Bay.

Ryan Johansen, Colton Sissons, and Dante Fabbro

“Man, I feel just like a rockstar,” said Ryan Johansen probably. G-Wagen, G-Wagen, G-Wagen, were all the housewives pulling up?

Johansen and his two new roommates could’ve gone the way of The Hangover, becoming the three best friends that anyone could have, but instead they opted for a killer collab. (Swipe for the trio.)

Fabbro put on his best ‘tell me about it, stud’ and went burning up the quarter mile as Danny Zuko.

Not to be outdone, Colton Sissons proved Nashville is big enough for two ‘rocket men.’ He’s still standing, and if you were lucky enough to catch the video circulating the Instagram story of multiple Preds players and their significant others, you saw a snippet of a duet between two Eltons. Well done, sirs.

I’d be lying if I didn’t admit I saved the best for last. The best costumes of the night go to — drum roll, please...

Pekka Rinne and Mikael Granlund

Fam

Who knew the Kardashian sisters and ‘mom-ager’ extraordinaire Kris Jenner were such Preds fans!

It was so kind of them to fly their private jet from Los Angeles to Nashville to show up for an NHL team Halloween party — wait, that’s not the world-famous reality stars? It’s Pekka Rinne and Mikael Granlund? Yes, yes it is.

Based on the expert posing from Pekka Rinne — who took a break from being a brick wall to don a Halloween masterpiece — I never would have guessed. Work that leg pop, Pekka!

This is art. I will be framing this. Bible.

There were many other costumes seen across the Instagram interwebs. However, costumes in contention for a highly coveted spot in this serious slice of journalism were based on public Instagram posts, and unfortunately none from the Instagram stories that were truly a blessing.

I hope everyone has a hockey Halloween to remember.
