Nashville Predators vs. Dallas Stars Preview: Groundhog Day

Saturday night in Nashville...nothing better.

NHL: Dallas Stars at Nashville Predators Christopher Hanewinckel-USA TODAY Sports

After a third period goal flood last night, can the Predators get a better start against Dallas tonight?

Tonight is Jordin Tootoo night! He will be recognized by the Nashville Predators this evening.

Nashville Predators

After snoozing for much of the game last night, the Predators finally got their legs back under them for a four-goal onslaught in the third period.

Viktor Arvidsson notched two goals last night to bring him over 20 goals. Filip Forsberg started “Fil-bruary” off right with three assists. Captain Roman Josi added a goal for his ninth of the season, and Kevin Fiala padded the lead with some slick moves, also for his ninth of the season.

Would you just look at Fiala’s hands here? I’m in love.

Juuse Saros turned away all but one in the debut of his golden pads; the Golden Bear grabbed his 13th win of the season last night. Expect Pekka Rinne in net tonight.

Matt Irwin was Nashville’s only scratch last night. Zac Rinaldo, Miikka Salomäki, and Kyle Turris remain on injured reserve.

Dallas Stars

Our favorite ex-Predator Alexander Radulov hasn’t scored in around eight games, but he’s still potting assists. Tyler Seguin leads Dallas in points with 47 (20 goals, 27 assists). Radulov has 41 (14 goals, 27 assists). Captain Jamie Benn has 35 points (19 goals, 16 assists).

Dallas re-acquired Jamie Oleksiak from the Pittsburgh Penguins, and he joins a blue line that is still without Marc Methot. John Klingberg leads Dallas d-men in points with 25 (6 goals, 19 assist), and rookie All-Star Miro Heiskanen has 21 points (9 goals, 12 assists).

Goaltender Ben Bishop has a .925 Sv% over 33 contests, and backup Anton Khudobin has a .923 Sv% over 23 games. Both goalies are reliable in net for the Stars. Expect to see Khudobin tonight since Bishop played last evening against Minnesota.

Memories and Feelings

  • No one injure Arvidsson, please.
  • After dropping a game to Dallas at home before Christmas, the Preds likely want to put some distance between themselves and Dallas/Minnesota in the standings.
  • Will Saros’s golden pads hurt our eyes when combined with Nashville’s home jersey?

Reasons to Watch

  • Dallas is quietly in the running for third place in the Central Division. They sit behind Nashville by a few points, but they’re on top of Colorado and Minnesota. They have to fight for points in every game, so expect some rowdiness.
