According to the NHLPA, both Colton Sissons and Rocco Grimaldi have chosen to file for salary arbitration instead of accepting the qualifying offers the Nashville Predators made them.
Sissons and Grimaldi will be able to continue to negotiate with David Poile while they wait for the arbitration hearing itself; this is something that Poile has managed successfully in the past. If either player and the team are unable to agree to a contract before arbitration, the contract will be determined by the arbitrator, who will review the player’s play, as well as the requests submitted by player and team.
After the hearing ends, the arbitrator will have 48 hours to decide on what he considers a fair offer to be. The Predators will then be able to decide whether or not they want to offer that contract to the player. If they decide not to, the player will become an unrestricted free agent.
Arbitration hearings begin on July 20 and end on August 4.
