World Para Ice Hockey Championships 2021: The sport of sled hockey

What you need to know about the sport to get the most out of watching the World Championships.

From June 19-26, the world’s best para ice hockey players will gather in Ostrava, Czech Republic for the 2021 World Para Ice Hockey Championships. This “Introduction to the 2021 World Para Ice Hockey Championships” three-part series will prepare fans for all the upcoming action in Ostrava. This episode highlights the history of sled hockey and the nuances of the game.

Episode 2: The Sport of Para Ice Hockey

The sport of para ice hockey has been around for over half a century, and has steadily grown a fan base after its introduction into the Winter Paralympics in 1994. The most recent World Championships held in 2019 in Ostrava proved that this sport engages sports fans who like speed and physical, fast action on the ice as well as fascinating athletes to root for off the ice.

In Episode 1 we introduced you to Team USA and the local Nashville players to know. Today let’s take a closer look at the sport before you watch the upcoming World Championship games.

How to Watch Worlds

Team USA opens play on Saturday, June 19 at 8:00 AM CST agaisnt Team Canada. This game will be an excellent showcase of the talent and skills necessary to compete at the top level of the game.
