Barret Jackman Placed On Waivers, Will Be Bought Out

The Nashville Predators have placed Barret Jackman on waivers for the purpose of buying the last year of his contract.

Jackman is due $2.0 million this season as he has one year left on his two-year contract he signed prior to the beginning of last season.

The 35-year-old isn’t the flashiest of players, but he was extremely serviceable on the bottom pairing. He showed he could play alongside pretty much any Nashville d-man last season. He had one goal and four helpers in 73 regular season games with the Preds last season.

It will be interesting to see who slides into his role in 2016-17. Anthony Bitetto showed his worth last season as he played alongside Jackman, but the sample size of Petter Granberg was relatively small. Could David Poile have a free-agent on his mind?
