Breaking: Predators Trade F Austin Watson to Ottawa for 4th Round Pick

It was announced Saturday afternoon that the Nashville Predators were trading veteran forward Austin Watson to the Ottawa Senators in exchange for a fourth-round 2021 NHL draft pick.

The former first round draft pick of Nashville came into last season as a fourth line winger who was in an out of the active lineup.  Despite a legal issue last year, Watson was awarded a three-year, $4.5 million extension that was announced during the game on Halloween last season.  After former head coach Peter Laviolette was fired, Watson was healthy scratched for several games until the season was suspended, but returned to the lineup for all four qualifying round games against the Arizona Coyotes.

Despite the lack of production, Watson was a mainstay in the Nashville lineup as an enforcer and played a prominent role in the Stanley Cup Finals run in 2017.  The move gives Nashville $1.5 million in cap space for the next years, and perhaps most importantly, the chance for Watson to get a new start with the Ottawa Senators.
