Friday’s Dump & Chase: Sweet, Sweet Victory

Nashville Predators News

Nashville Predators 3, Columbus Blue Jackets 1: Newcomers shine in home opener | On the Forecheck
While the new guys like Luke Kunin, Eric Haula and the pairing of Benning and Borowiecki made a fast impact last night, two familiar faces stole the show.  Juuse Saros shook off a breakaway goal early on, then shut down the Blue Jackets for the rest of the game.  And Filip Forsberg?  He was everywhere last night.  Read more about it in Kate’s fantastic recap.

Renegades of Puck – 01-15-2021 – Discussing last night’s win

Shaun and I will be on the show (on WNSR) all season, so check in and listen to hear all the discussion after last night’s win.

Hockey Is For Everyone

Beauts’ Taylor Accursi to sit out NWHL season six | The Ice Garden
What an awful loss for both Buffalo’s captain and the team, as Taylor Accursi announced she cannot play in the bubble in Lake Placid because of her duties as an Ontario police officer.

NWHL releases 2020-21 schedule | The Ice Garden
I love the idea of the Lake Placid bubble for the NWHL, and the league announced the nearly two week schedule which will see all six teams playing in a tournament-like environment.  Make sure you check it out!

Around the NHL

Hurricanes blank Red Wings in season-opening win | Canes Country
New Central Division rivals the Carolina Hurricanes got off to hot start, shutting out the Red Wings 3-0.  The Canes bring their offensive stars (plus a fighin’ Dougie Hamilton) to Bridgestone Arena on Monday as the first half of a two night back-to-back

Capitals @ Sabres Recap: Caps Take Season Opener with 6-4 Victory | Japers’ Rink
The Peter Laviolette era in Washington started last night with a high-scoring affair, where the Capitals won 6-4 over the Taylor Hall-powered Buffalo Sabres.

RECAP: Tuukka Rask flawless in overtime, beat Devils in a shootout | Stanley Cup of Chowder
While I was initially upset that former Predator Craig Smith was seemingly a healthy scratch for Boston, turns out he was held out for a lower-back injury.  So I guess that’s ok.  Without him though, the Bruins needed a shootout to put the New Jersey Devils away in a 3-2 win.

Vegas Golden Knights 2021 Regular Season Game 1 Recap: Win 4-2 versus Anaheim Ducks | Knights On Ice
Mark Stone has quietly been one of the best players in the entire league over the last two years, so it made perfect sense that Vegas named him the franchise’s first team captain.  Stone’s two points and a goal helped the Golden Knights put away the Ducks by a score of 5-2.

Sharks at Coyotes recap, score: San Jose makes win harder than necessary | Fear The Fin
The San Jose (or is it Scottsdale?) Sharks nearly gave this game away after a 2-0 lead in the first.  But the Coyotes fought back strong, including two goals in the final ten minutes (and a goal in the last four seconds!) to tie the game and sent it to overtime and eventually a shootout.

Game Recap: Edmonton 5, Vancouver 2 | The Copper & Blue
I was going to talk about the Edmonton debut of Kyle Turris, but instead I’ll leave it at this:  Connor.  Freaking.  McDavid.

Wow.

Analytical Analysis – CGY @ WPG | Matchsticks and Gasoline
The Winnipeg Jets came out last night, and Patrik Laine showed everyone why he’s worth having around, guiding them to a 4-3 overtime win over the Calgary Flames.  Check out this excellent breakdown of the game by a fellow numbers guy.

New York Islanders shut out Rangers in 2021 season opener | Lighthouse Hockey
People were starting to feel the hype with a Rangers team featuring Panarin and Kakko, but the New York Islanders were hearing none of it, victimizing several Rangers (especially Tony DeAngelo) and walking away with the 4-0 shutout.

Minnesota Wild Game Recap: Kaprizov leads Wild past Kings | Hockey Wilderness
Sure, the Wild now have FOUR former Predators on the team in Kevin Fiala, Nick Bonino, Ryan Hartman and Ryan Suter, but there’s only one thing people are talking about from the 4-3 overtime win over the Kings – Kirill Kaprizov.

Taxi squad goalies can help NHL regulars stay fresh with compact schedule | NHL.com
A look at the upside of having the third taxi-squad goalie this season.  And speaking of upside, Nashville has a ton with one of the best goaltenders in the AHL last season, Connor Ingram ready to step in if needed.

Blais suspended two games for actions in Blues game | NHL.com
Good.  The hit by Blues forward Sammy Blais on Colorado’s Devon Toews was dirty, and I’m glad the suspension is coming.

Tweet of the Day

See if you can guess the context.  I don’ t know why exactly this is so funny, but it is.

Song of the Day

Unfortunately, 99% of us will be watching Predators games from home, but I wouldn’t want you to miss hearing the best sound a person can hear in the Tire Barn.  So turn up your speakers at home or your office, and blast this thing three times in celebration:
