The Predators finish the Alberta back-to-back tonight with a trip to the Saddledome, where they’ll face a Flames team having similar struggles. The Preds come into the evening 3-4-3 in their last ten, while the Flames — who got out to a great start — are 3-5-2 recently.
Rasmus Andersson and Jonathan Huberdeau lead the Flames’ offense with 11 and 10 points respectively; Huberdeau and Nazem Kadri are the goalscoring leaders with six and five goals each. The Flames have struggled offensively, but they’ve added bad shooting luck to their troubles.
The power play especially has been unlucky, converting on just 15% of chances despite a strong netfront presence. I’d like to see the Preds’ PK do a good job of keeping them to the outside and lowering Juuse Saros’s workload while shorthanded.
Defense hasn’t been the Flames’ strongest point, but goalies Dan VladaĆ and Dustin Wolf have been up to the task at even strength, keeping their team out of as much trouble as they can. The penalty kill has been more of a problem for Calgary, however.
