Golden Games: Fil Starts His Run vs. Weber’s Bombs

Welcome back to the Golden Games, a silly contest where we vote on game performances from last year to see which was the best. Click here for the full details, as well as the overall bracket. The bracket has been updated to reflect 1st round winners so far.

Oh, and the 2nd round begins tomorrow!

But first, we have our final match-up of the 1st round. Today we’ve got Filip Forsberg’s 1st hat-trick during that crazy week in February going up against Shea Weber’s hat-trick in the Motor City.

#2 Filip Forsberg (2/23/16 @ TOR)

On Tuesday, February 23rd, Filip Forsberg started off the best single week of his career with a great performance in Toronto. The opening goal, scored with just over five minutes gone in the 1st period, came off a soft pass at the top of the blue-line from Mike Ribeiro, but the real beauty was in the finish. Forsberg had James Reimer dead to rights and finished the play with a nifty deke and forehand shot that beat Reimer glove-side. It was just the beginning of a great night for Forsberg, who scored all three goals in the Preds’ 3-2 win.

Check out the highlights below. This is Forsberg at his finest.

#7 Shea Weber (12/5/15 @ DET)

The Predators tangled with the Red Wings on a cold December day in Detroit early on in the season. Despite Shea Weber putting up 3 power play goals over the course of the game, the Preds lost in overtime on a goal by Gustav Nyquist. As you can see below, Weber and Josi were on fire from the blue-line, passing and shooting with ease. Defensively, this wasn’t the Preds’ finest hour, but they were lighting up the scoreboard at the other end.

Take a look at Weber’s absolutely bomb on that 3rd goal. That power will be missed, for sure.
