Golden Games: Playoff Willy vs. Vintage Pekka

Welcome back to the Golden Games, a silly contest where we vote on game performances from last year to see which was the best. Click here for the full details, as well as the overall bracket.

Today’s match-up features playoff protagonist Colin Wilson getting the fans on their feet early and Pekka Rinne giving a “Throwback Tuesday” performance early in the season against the Ducks.

#3 Colin Wilson (5/5/16 vs. SJ, Game 4)

As advertised, we have another entry from the spectacular triple overtime win over the Sharks. This time it’s Colin Wilson, whose play during regulation kept the Preds in the game, helping to prep the home crowd for the madness soon to come. About two hours before he assisted the game tying goal in the 3rd and about five hours before he assisted the game winning goal in triple overtime, Wilson put the Preds up 1-0 on a rebound goal. It only took 41 seconds for Wilson to send the Bridge into a frenzy. Check it out below.

Right place, right time, nothing but net.

#6 Pekka Rinne (11/17/15 vs. ANA)

This was probably Rinne’s finest regular season game all year, second maybe to the Blackhawks game in February (the #3 seed in the Lavy bracket). On this Tuesday in mid-November, the Preds faced a rapidly falling Ducks team. Nashville, overall, did not play great. Anaheim dominated puck possession and put up 40 shots on Rinne. With the rest of the team in a funk, Rinne threw his teammates on his back and carried them to a 3-2 win. It was a vintage, “Old Faithful” type of Rinne performance… something we got used to seeing in recent years, but longed for much of this past year.

In the highlight below, he makes an incredible double-stop on Carl Hagelin to keep the game at 3-1.
