Nashville Predators 3, Los Angeles Kings 2: Mike Fisher scores twice to win it

Mike Fisher put an emphatic end to Nashville’s 5-game losing streak, scoring two dramatic goals late in the 3rd period to lift the Predators past the Los Angeles Kings, 3-2. After Fisher made it 2-1 Preds, the Kings came back and tied the game with 37 seconds remaining. Off the ensuing faceoff, it took Fisher only 10 seconds to deliver the game winner for a happy sellout crowd at Bridgestone Arena.

Marek Mazanec played a strong game in goal, turning aside 26 Kings shots, many of which were strong chances by a Los Angeles team that dominated the flow of even strength play during the first two periods. Fortunately for Nashville, the Kings took a bounty of penalties, giving the Preds a number of power play opportunities, on which they went 1-for-5.

In all, Fisher had three points for the night, with an assist on a Patric Hornqvist goal in the first period. Next up, the Preds (17-18-4) host the Detroit Red Wings (stars of HBO’s “24/7”) on Monday night.

Random Observations

  • You have to like that Hornqvist goal – Fisher had to deal with a bouncing puck high in the slot, but did the right thing in driving it to the net however he could – Horny was able to corral the rebound and bury it easily.
  • No Too Many Men penalties against the Preds tonight. Progress!
  • Paul Gaustad had an off night, with two penalties and a 4-for-11 run on the faceoff dot.
  • An assortment of Preds got some good looks (Matt Cullen, Colin Wilson, Viktor Stalberg) that they couldn’t quite finish off, but the hope is that a game like this builds their confidence. We’ll see…/
