Magnus Hellberg Traded to New York Rangers
The goalie logjam in the minors is at an end.
The Nashville Predators continued their wheeling and dealing today by shipping off goaltender Magnus Hellberg to the New York Rangers. A 6th round pick in 2017 comes back to Nashville.
OFFICIAL: #NYR have acquired goaltender Magnus Hellberg (@Mulle45) from Nashville in exchange for a 6th rd pick in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft.

This move was anything but unexpected, as Marek Mazanec was already signed, and Juuse Saros inked his entry-level deal a few weeks ago. There didn't appear to be any room for Hellberg, and now he'll find a new home in the New York system while Maz and Saros tag-team in AHL Milwaukee.
The return feels a little underwhelming, as a 6th round draft pick is generally a crapshoot. But Hellberg has only appeared in one NHL game, and that was a relief appearance. Getting anything for him at this point is better than nothing.
