Milwaukee Musings: Seven Straight
Milwaukee has snagged 14 points in the past two weeks.
Milwaukee continued their impressive tear of games this week displaying some of the offensive prowess expected from this roster heading into the season. But the 15 goals scored in the past three games would not be possible without a power-play unit that scored nearly every other opportunity this week led by Daniel Carr, Cole Schneider and Colin Blackwell.
The Admirals skated in Iowa last night and will play a home-and-home series with Grand Rapids this Friday and Saturday.
Headlines
- On Sunday, Nashville assigned forward Miikka Salomäki to Milwaukee; he’s suited up in three games for the Admirals this season
- On Monday, Nashville recalled forward Mathieu Olivier and defender Steven Santini from Milwaukee
- On Tuesday, Nashville assigned forward Lukas Craggs to Florida after recovering from injury
- Milwaukee possesses an AHL-best 31.5% power play efficiency after last week/
Stats and Standings
Milwaukee continues to get elite performances from their two netminders, which has helped fuel this recent run of victories. On defense, Frédéric Allard and Jérémy Davies continue to be the team’s best option, while Matt Donovan and Steven Santini are contributing to a lot of offense but surrendering a lot, too.
Brandon Fortunato and Adam Smith are struggling with their defensive assignments as they alternate in and out of the Everblades’ lineup.
Up front, Colin Blackwell and Yakov Trenin continue pacing the Admirals, while Tommy Novak has benefited well from centering Cole Schneider. Daniel Carr is scoring but not so much at even strength. Anthony Richard and Rem Pitlick continue to search for their five-on-five offensive production.
Game Recaps
November 13 v. Chicago Wolves
Chicago opened the scoring before Colin Blackwell kicked things off for Milwaukee on a two-man advantage halfway through the first period. Eeli Tolvanen added another one moments later before the Admirals scored twice more (Carr and Pitlick—the latter’s first pro goal) in the period.
Daniel Carr and Tommy Novak added two more in the third as Milwaukee routed the Wolves with five power play goals.
November 15 @ Laval Rocket
Yakov Trenin and Matt Donovan opened the scoring for Milwaukee on two good bounces in the first period. Daniel Carr added another power play goal and Rem Pitlick scored his second of the year as the Admirals, with the help of a stout penalty kill, topped the Rocket 5-2.
November 16 @ Belleville Senators
The unstoppable power play duo of Colin Blackwell and Cole Schneider struck again in Ontario on Saturday night when the latter recorded two goals on the man-advantage as Milwaukee skated to their seventh straight win.
Players of the Week
Daniel Carr (F): The Admirals highlighted Carr’s case for consecutive Player of the Week honors, and, in Rachel’s opinion, their argument checks out. Carr has been an absolute catalyst in driving offense and generating momentum.
Carr recorded four goals and six points in three games this week; two of those four goals were recorded on the man advantage. [RK]
Rem Pitlick (F): Pitlick was part of a cadre of players desperate to break out of an offensive slump to begin the season and it was this week he finally did. The AHL rookie scored in each of Milwaukee’s contests (and added two more last night at Iowa, in a game we’ll cover next week) nearly doubling his season point total from five to four with an assist against Chicago, too.
Pitlick is shooting at a 14.29% rate and has a 55.56% Corsi rating via my tracking work this season. [ED]
Musings
On Monday, Winnipeg Jets 2016 fifth-round pick Mikhail Berdin was named the AHL Player of the Week after an impressive display in net for the Moose. But it was previously, over the weekend, where Berdin made different (and funnier) headlines; this is the goalie on his fight with Rampage forward Jordan Nolan:

- Through 17 games, Milwaukee has lost just three times in regulation.
- Matt Donovan has quietly been productive for Milwaukee; before the Belleville game, he had a five-game point streak. However, just three of his ten points are primary ones at even strength.
- Daniel Carr and Yakov Trenin are fifth and 12th in the AHL goal-scoring race before Tuesday night, respectively
- Frederic Allard has surrendered just 0.89 goals-against per 60 minutes of even strength play this season; he also leads all Milwaukee defenders in primary points at even strength (4)/
