Monday's Dump & Chase: Flip-Flopping
Time for this humble writer to acknowledge the truth and change his mind.
I have to renege on my previous generalization that the World Cup of Hockey is a waste of time and a laughable preseason tourney. It's actually quite fun.
Granted, that's mostly because of the rejuvenated rivalry between the U.S. and Canada, but also the product is a lot better than I thought it would be. Even with some high profile players backing out at the last minute, the players that remain are giving us energy and creativity.. and not shying away from the physical nature of the game we love.
I was expecting something between Skills Competition and All-Star Game. Instead, we're getting something closer to the real thing. Can't really complain about that.

"One of the big questions coming in is how seriously the players would take this tournament, knowing that it's not the Olympics and that it's primarily a cash-grab by the NHL. If you watched either of the exhibitions, you know that there's a lot on the line for these players."
Echoes of my earlier sentiment, though maybe slightly overstated.
