Nashville Predators 2, Winnipeg Jets 1: Back To Winning Ways

It was Pekka Rinne bobble head night and Hockey Fights Cancer night as the Nashville Predators took on the Winnipeg Jets at Bridgestone Arena. The Jets came into tonight only two points behind the Preds in the tight Central division. Nashville started the game slow, but eventually got things going. In the end, Nashville was able to walk away two full points.

The Jets opened up the scoring with a short handed goal from Blake Wheeler. The Predators brought the pressure and evened things up on a one timer from James Neal. Neal’s goal came quickly after the disallowed goal by Mike Ribeiro. Craig Smith then put in the game winner on a wicked wrister.

Random Observations

  • What a great moment in the pre-game with the Hockey Fights Cancer presentation. It is such a great way to show that the league cares, and gives back. We are also doing our best to bring awareness this month with Movember. I am sure you guys have gotten to see our great mustaches so far.
  • The Preds had a slow start to this one tonight. They went almost half of the first period without being credited with a shot on goal. They had some possession, but just couldn’t get anything on net. The good news with that is Nashville rarely starts back to back games with slow starts. So we got that going for us.
  • I don’t know why the Preds rolled out Shea Weber and Roman Josi with the Derek Roy line on the power play to start off. I would have thought that Filip Forsberg and James Neal would have started with Weber and Josi in the offensive zone. They would have already had established pressure. But hey, that’s why I’m not the coach, right?
  • Why was Matt Cullen playing on the point during the power play in the second period? He has been out there way too many times on odd man rushes going the other way. That time it led to Blake Wheeler’s goal. And once again the Preds start the night 0-3 on the man advantage.
  • The Jets did what the Predators have been doing so well this season, they clogged the neutral zone. Through the first two periods of the game, the Preds just couldn’t sustain any momentum carrying the puck through the neutral zone. They were clearly frustrated.
  • That no goal call was ridiculous.Mike Ribeiro wasn’t even the one who did the high stick. I know it was the right call, but still. It didn’t even matter though, because Heel James Neal put one in without a doubt just eight seconds later. Now that is how you respond to a call that doesn’t go your way. But in all honesty, it should be 2-1 right now.
  • ‘Murica!! (In reference to Smith’s goal)/

OTF’s Super Duper Stars of the Game

  • All the mustaches on the roster. They are magnificently awesome if I may say so myself.
  • Heel James Neal. He pulled a total heel move by scoring a goal right after a no goal call. I can hear him now, “listen.”
  • Craig Smith. See last random observation./
