Nashville Predators 5, Arizona Coyotes 2: Filip Forsberg Leads Nashville

What started out to seem like another frustrating night ended up being an exciting game down the stretch.

The scoring got started by the Coyotes as Oliver Ekman-Larsson made Nashville pay on the man advantage. That was enough to allow them take a one goal lead into intermission. The Predators answered back on their own man advantage with a goal from Calle Jarnkrok. Kyle Chipchura gave Arizona the lead back late in the second period. Mike Ribeiro brought the game back to even early in the third period. Shortly after, Filip Forsberg put the Preds ahead by one. Forsberg added another insurance goal late in the period to give Nashville a two goal lead. James Neal put in the empty netter to seal the deal.

Hopefully tonight’s game will spark the Preds for the rest of the season. It can only mean good things when Forsberg is back on the scoring sheet in the goal column. Now we just wait to see how serious the Mike Fisher injury is.

Random Observations

  • I am sure that I’m not the only one who took a double take when the lines were announced. It looked like a preseason lineup.
  • This slump that the Predators are in sure isn’t because lack of effort. The start of this game was exactly how the Preds wanted to start. They came out firing. It’s only a matter of time before these goals start coming, right??
  • How can a team go over half of the first period without a shot on goal? That should just tell you how dominant the first period was for the Predators as far as possession goes.
  • Yea that seems about right. The Preds dominate the first period only to go into the intermission down a goal. Seems like it’s been the same story, just on different nights.
  • I guess when it rains it pours. Not only are the Predators in the midst of a slump, but Mike Fisher hobbled off the ice in tonight’s game. Things are getting even thinner for the Preds.
  • Every time the Preds score, it feels like a giant weight has been lifted. That should just tell you how starved this team is for goals lately.
  • At the end of the second period, my frustrations are uncontainable. So many shots, so many chances, so much possession, not enough goals to show for it…
  • Apparently, if you complain for long enough about the goals not coming, you’ll get a goal. Maybe I should use that strategy for the rest of the season.
  • Also, if you throw players under the bus, they will respond. I called out Forsberg for not scoring last week in a preview, and he answered that call tonight for sure.
  • It seems like the Predators got their third period swagger back tonight. They were able to comeback and score multiple times in the third. That is something we were used to seeing early this year.
  • This was almost comical with the number of posts the Preds hit tonight. Sometimes the hockey gods just aren’t on your side.
  • The Preds played the second half of the game with only 11 forwards. They surprisingly looked to energetic the whole time. It just goes to show you how important this game was to them./
