Nashville Predators @ Boston Bruins: Keep The Party Going

Back on the ice after dispatching Columbus 5-1 on Monday night, the Predators are looking to keep the party going tonight in Boston. Probably the only good thing about back-to-back games in the NHL is if you win the first one, you should have some natural momentum going into the second night. However, it would be more welcome if tonight’s game wasn’t a revenge game against a heavy hitting opponent like Boston. No matter where they are in the standings, Boston is a tough team to face in the 2nd game of a back-to-back.

The Boston Bruins

Since the Preds saw them a week ago, the Bruins are 2-1 in three games. They beat the Wild and the Sabres, but lost to the Jets. In the last preview against the Bruins, I pointed out that they badly needed Tuukka Rask to play better. Not much has changed, but he played well in enough in our game and in two of the games since to give the Bruins a chance to win. They went with Niklas Svedberg against Minnesota and he played well, stopping 23 of 25 shots. The Bruins are too good of a team to have to rely on their goalie to keep them in every game (hmm, where have we heard this before?) They still need more consistent scoring from their 2nd and 3rd lines to remain competitive in the East.

The Nashville Predators

Kaboom! Offense!

Wow, what a performance. That was some slick hockey, boys. There were so many goals that were pleasing to the eyes in this one. Colin Wilson burying the breakaway to open the scoring. Craig Smith’s laser shot after Filip Forsberg did nasty things with the puck in the corner. And you gotta love Seth Jones getting his first of the year (FINALLY). Also, just look at this play by Ribeiro:

After taking a great angle on the attack upon receiving the pass, his timing of that saucer pass over the outstretched Savard could not have been more perfect. We are getting used to seeing this from Ribs. Calm, skilled, decisive, deadly.

We should see Carter Hutton in goal tonight, who is 0-2-1 on the season. So it would be nice for Hutt to get in the win column for the first time this year. It will be important in the coming months for the Predators to get some quality starts from Hutton, so as to keep Pekka Rinne healthy and in line for a playoff run.

Also, Filip Forsberg is 6 points away from the Predators season record for a rookie. With 4 games left in 2014, he could potentially tie or break the record before January. And somewhere, Marty Erat just ordered room service for 1.

Reasons To Watch

  • In the last game, some may remember Filip Forsberg making a run at Zdeno Chara after the puck was stopped. Here’s to hoping we get Forsberg vs. Chara, round 2.
  • Seth Jones just got his first goal of the year on the same day that the USA stopped North Korea from using the Internet. If he gets another one tonight, North Korea may be without sunlight tomorrow.
  • The Bruins will be hungry for revenge. Or just hungry to win a game. Either way, it should be a fun one to watch.

The Important Details

Another early start! 6pm puck drop. It will be televised on FS-TN and radio broadcast on 102.5 The Game.
