Nashville Predators 5, Colorado Avalanche 2: Home Sweet Home

Nashville played a tremendous game tonight as they handled business against the Colorado Avalanche. Every aspect of the Preds’ game was on point tonight. The defense was smothering, the offense was clicking, and the goaltending, well, the goaltending didn’t have to do much tonight.

The scoring started early as Nathan MacKinnon kicked off the scoring for the Avalanche early in the first. That was then responded to by a quick goal from Calle Jarnkrok. There wasn’t any more scoring in the first, but Shea Weber was handed a questionable game misconduct after a fight with Gabriel Landeskog. Craig Smith kicked off the scoring in the second period with a slap shot from the circle to get it past Varlamov. Roman Josi tacked on another one late in the second to give the Predators a two goal lead. Filip Forsberg continued the scoring for the Preds in third. Eric Nystrom got in on the action with a goal of his own, as he took advantage of the empty net. John Mitchell scored late in third for the Avs, but it was all but over at that point.

Up next, Minnesota.

Random Observations

  • I’m not going to lie, I just made it home just in time for the puck drop, and thank god I did. Really quick start to this one from both teams. And what a great response by the Predators right after that first goal was scored, am I right? That is what I, and I’m sure every Preds fan, love to see from the team.
  • I love that fact that it was Jarnkrok that scored that goal. He is having an alright season so far, but a goal like that one could really get the young, talented forward going. And, hopefully, perfect timing for the playoffs
  • Filip Forsberg on the third line was a fun experiment while it lasted. But seeing him on the first line tonight, there is no doubt in my mind that is where he belongs. Him, Ribeiro, and Neal are just magic together. They can make anything happen out there. I love it!
  • When will people learn that you don’t make Shea Weber mad? And you don’t take a shot at Josi and get away with it. If it wasn’t Weber, Paul Gaustad was right there. I love that every single one of these guys have each other’s backs. With all that being said, I think a game misconduct may have been a little bit of an overreaction by the refs.
  • Is it just me or are the Preds playing significantly better when they were shorthanded tonight (or at least in the first period)? I like the enthusiasm, but not sure if that is a trend I want them to follow for the rest of the season.
  • At the end of the first period tonight, the Preds only allowed three shots on goal. Including Sunday’s game against Buffalo, the Preds have only allowed twenty shots on goal through four periods of play. That is a stupid number.
  • Smith just continues to get it done night in and night out. Can someone please pay that man? The Preds were all over the Avs in the second period, and Smith’s goal was just a culmination of that. They were playing with a purpose out there tonight.
  • “Come at me bro!” – Josi talking to Landeskog.
  • Through two periods of play, the Avs only have eight shots on goal. Weber has four, and he missed seventeen minutes of game time.

  • Bold move going with the empty net with over half of the period left to play.

OTF’s Super Duper Stars of the Game

  • Craig Smith: We might as well just pencil his name in here every game.
  • Roman Josi: He almost got beheaded in the first, and then scores a goal in the second.
  • Filip Forsberg: He is a bad, bad man./
