Nashville Predators waive Derek Roy, assign Viktor Stalberg

According to Elliot Friedman, the Nashville Predators have put forward Derek Roy on waivers.

Roy, signed in the summer on a bargain $1 million deal, has not played bad for the Predators this year. However, it’s become clear with numerous healthy scratches that he fell way down on the depth chart. With the emergence of Taylor Beck and even Gabriel Bourque making the most of his extra lives, ice time has been hard to come by for Roy.

Still, that contract is a blessing for many teams who could use another body in their lineup. Roy has one goal and nine assists on the season, and is still able to contribute. We won’t find out if he’s claimed until 11 a.m. tomorrow, but the chances of him getting plucked are high.

In other, less surprising news, Nashville also announced they have assigned Viktor Stalberg to AHL Milwaukee.

After a series of bizarre events a few weeks ago, where he was waived, assigned, and immediately recalled due to injury, expect Stalberg to stay in the minors for while.
