Predators sign Yakov Trenin to two-year, $725K AAV contract

The Nashville Predators have announced that rookie forward Yakov Trenin has signed a new contract with the team. Earlier this offseason, Trenin’s agent had been angling for a one-way contract (NHL only) with the implication that his client would move to the KHL in free agency otherwise. With this signing, and no announcement of AHL salary, it sounds as if we can expect to see Trenin in gold consistently next season.

The Predators’ press release (also available on their website) says that the contract is for two years, with a salary of $700K in 2020-21 and $750K in 2021-22. This is a good deal for a player who was a big part of the Milwaukee Admirals’ offense this past season, on a team that intends to focus on the skills of the young talent already in the system.

We’ll have more on what this means for the Predators—and what losing Trenin’s skills means for the Admirals—later this offseason and as we begin to look at roster construction for this winter.
