Nashville Predators vs. Boston Bruins Preview: The Times, They Are A-Changing

Well, the firing of Peter Laviolette and Kevin McCarthy, and the hire of John Hynes to replace Laviolette, have been extensively covered elsewhere. For the boys in gold, the show must go on. They face a stiff test against the Bruins tonight.

Nashville Predators

The Preds have been in a funk for a few games now. After a disappointing finish in the Winter Classic, the Predators came in full force against the bottom-of-the-league Kings. The next night, however, they couldn’t get it together long enough to hold off the struggling Ducks.

Roman Josi continues to ride his incredible point streak of 10 games, making an excellent case for the 2020 Norris Trophy. Craig Smith had two goals against the Ducks…it’s good to see #15 heating up.

Regardless of exactly what Hynes brings to the Nashville bench in his first twelve hours on the job, the Predators need to get angry and play focused north-south hockey. This roster is too good to be four points out of a wildcard spot in the Western Conference.

Boston Bruins

The Bruins have dropped three games in a row, but two of those contests required overtime and a shootout.

The same cast of characters lead the Bruins in points. David Pastrnak, Patrice Bergeron, and Brad Marchand are the powerhouse leaders for the Bruins and they haven’t taken their foot of the gas yet.

Torey Krug leads Boston defenders in points with 28 (5 goals, 23 assists). He’s been money for the Bruins on the blue line.

Tuukka Rask and Jaroslav Halak both have stellar numbers in net. In 18 games, Halak boasts a .928 Sv% and Rask has a .923 Sv% over 23 games. Boston’s incredible goaltending allows a near-split in net to ensure that Rask is well-rested for the playoffs. I’m positive this is the same system that Nashville would like to have, but our goalies are struggling a bit.

Memories and Feelings

  • Y’all remember before Christmas when the Predators took points in each game of their road trip? This was my favorite goal of the whole trip:/

  • Someone somewhere will point out that Zdeno Chara and Rocco Grimaldi differ in height by more than a whole foot./

Reasons to Watch

  • I know you don’t have Tuesday night plans this early in the year.
  • Avoid removing Christmas decorations (like me) and watch hockey. /

Tonight’s Theme Song

I’m assuming there will be no actual rioting, but it’s time for the Predators to get angry and play to their abilities.

How to Watch

Tonight’s game is at the regular time of 7:00 Central. 102.5 The Game has the radio call and Fox Sports-TN and ESPN+ will have the broadcast.
