Nashville Predators vs. Chicago Blackhawks Preview: Come Together

The Preds continue their homestand tonight against the Blackhawks.

Nashville Predators

Thursday’s loss was ugly. The Predators managed to be shut out by a rookie goaltender making his first NHL start. They seemed lethargic on ice, making sloppy passes and failing to put the puck anywhere except the goalie’s chest. Is this team struggling without Kyle Turris, Viktor Arvidsson, and P.K. Subban? Yes.

A homestand is typically a good time to pick up needed points in front of your home fans. The Predators haven’t really showed up yet.

However, Eeli Tolvanen has been recalled, so maybe he’ll get some scoring going or maybe he’ll help motivate the rest of the team. It’ll be interesting to see who sits to make room for him, but whoever it is, a message will be sent.

Chicago Blackhawks

The Blackhawks had a weird start to the season. Goaltender Corey Crawford has finally returned from IR, but the Hawks seem like a shell of their former selves. Gone is coach Joel Quenneville from behind the bench.

Led in points by no other than Patrick Kane with 29 (13 goals, 16 assists) and captain Jonathan Toews with 21 (11 goals, 10 assists), the Blackhawks have struggled through their first 25 games. They are icing an incredibly young lineup with faces like Henri Jokiharju, Alex DeBrincat, John Hayden, and Dominik Kahun.

The Hawks and the Coyotes pulled off a trade last week sending Dylan Strome and Brendan Perlini to Chicago in exchange for Nick Schmaltz. We saw Schmaltz score a goal Thursday evening in Bridgestone…can the Preds prevent Strome or Perlini from scoring tonight?

Crawford is backed up by the inconsistent Cam Ward. Crawford has a .901 Sv% in 16 games and Ward has a .890 Sv% in 11 contests.
