Well, Thursday was a thriller. Mikael Granlund is the hero we don’t deserve. Let’s do it again?
Nashville Predators
#64’s heroics on Thursday not only tied, but won, the game against an equally desperate Flames squad.
Roman Josi eclipsed his points total for 2018-2019 on Thursday evening. The defender is having a fantastic season and should certainly be in Norris Trophy discussion. Juuse Saros has found 2020 to be very kind to him. The youngster has been dialed in and seeing his fair share of starts over elder netminder Pekka Rinne.
There’s not much to add about Mikael Granlund, but guys like Craig Smith, Calle Jarnkrok, Matt Duchene, and Filip Forsberg need to work on hitting the net a bit more. Balanced scoring will carry this team far in the playoffs.
Colorado Avalanche
The Avalanche were pretty quiet on Monday’s trade deadline. They’ve got a bunch of players with a rash of injuries, but they felt pretty confident in simply acquiring Michael Hutchinson to shore up their goaltending.
There’s a reason the Avalanche are so far up in the Central Division standings. Even with big names on the injured list, they get scoring from their entire lineup. In Philipp Grubauer’s absence, Pavel Francouz has been stellar.
Rookie sensation Cale Makar has been absurdly good…there’s no doubt he’s the front-runner for the Calder Trophy. Nathan MacKinnon has carried this team through the injury bug, posting 85 points (33 goals, 52 assists) in 63 games.
If the Predators are to sneak into the playoffs and try to make a run through the Western Conference, I’d much rather them face off against Pacific Division foes than try to deal with the Avalanche in the first or second round.

- Will tonight be the night Filip Forsberg and Matt Duchene finally score some goals? They’ve contributed assists and plenty of effort, but the posts seem to be getting in the way of goals. /
