Nashville Predators vs. Dallas Stars Preview 1/22/21: All My Exes Live in Texas

Hi, y’all, it’s been a while since the Preds have hit the ice. Once again, we wish health and safety for all players—including the Carolina Hurricanes, who’ve been dealing with some positive covid tests.

The Preds are in Dallas tonight to face the Stars.

Nashville Predators

The Predators took four points from Columbus to begin the season last week, but they stumbled against Carolina. Most players, including Filip Forsberg, noted how well they played. That attitude and in-game work ethic certainly needs to carry over after a longer break.

It appears that Luca Sbisa has joined the team after being claimed off waivers.

Forsberg himself leads the team in points with three goals in three games…can he continue this hot streak? Viktor Arvidsson also finds himself with three points in three games. Newcomer Luke Kunin has put up two goals as well.

Quickly, we should discuss Juuse Saros’s save percentage: .959 Sv% in two games. Don’t forget that Saros put up two excellent games against Dallas right before the 2019-2020 season shut down in early March. How excellent? Two shutouts. See below:

I’d expect Saros to get the start against Dallas.

Dallas Stars

The Stars have played exactly ZERO games this season. After dealing with an early covid outbreak, the Stars have followed all protocols to get themselves healthy again. This is their opening night, so look for a motivated and hungry team.

As we all know, the Stars made it to the Stanley Cup Final last summer. They were defeated by the Tampa Bay Lightning and had to watch the Lightning lift the Cup in an empty arena.

The Stars have had very little in terms of changes. With Tyler Seguin out with an injury, the lineup will look a little different. Expect Dallas to tinker with their lineup, including who’s on the taxi squad vs. who gets to dress for tonight’s game. Of course, tonight’s lineup could be very different from Sunday’s lineup.

Keep your eyes on Miro Heiskanen. This up-and-coming star is already REALLY good and he’s only going to get better.

Reasons to Watch

  • Nashville / Dallas games have become fairly chippy over the last year since the Stars eliminated the Preds in the first round of 2019’s playoffs. The Winter Classic debacle left a sour taste, too.
  • You’ve missed hockey.
  • You can look at Ryan Johansen’s “orangutan arms”. /
