Carolina Hurricanes 2, Nashville Predators 1: Skinner does it again…

Jeff Skinner stuck it to the Nashville Predators again, scoring the game-winner late in the 3rd period to lift the Carolina Hurricanes to a 2-1 victory tonight in Raleigh. Back in December he recorded his first career NHL hat trick at the Preds’ expense, and tonight he sent them to defeat.

Carter Hutton got the start tonight and coughed up a bad goal to Alexander Semin less than five minutes into the game, as Semin caught him leaning off the post and banked a shot of Hutton into the net. From there on, it was a pretty lifeless affair (both teams played last night) until the Preds tied things back up in the third period, as a Shea Weber blast on the power play led to Patric Hornqvist getting the score (it went off his skate, but was ruled OK by the NHL because it wasn’t kicked).

Next up, the Predators (18-19-6) return home to face the San Jose Sharks Tuesday night. A very busy week just got off to a less-than-impressive start…

Random Observations

  • Mike Fisher’s scoring streak now runs to five games, with four goals and six assists. Shea Weber’s assist on the Hornqvist goal was his 200th in the NHL.
  • Somebody tell those young D that pucks aren’t meant to be free giveaways, OK? Nobody needs back-to-back Delay of Game penalties like that from Mattias Ekholm & Seth Jones.
  • As Josh Cooper noted on Twitter, that was Ekholm’s first career NHL penalty.
  • Gabriel Bourque didn’t play at all in the third period. Matt Cullen played just 11:48, his lowest workload of the season./
