Roman Josi Added To Switzerland Olympic Team

Nashville Predators fans will have at least one person to cheer for when NHL players head to the upcoming Winter Olympics in Beijing.

Captain Roman Josi has been named to the Switzerland Olympic Hockey Team. He’s one of three players officially announced by the IIHF, along with New Jersey Devils’ captain Nico Hischier and San Jose Sharks forward Timo Meier.

This is the third time Josi has been selected to represent Switzerland in the Olympics. He played all four of his nation’s games during the 2014 games in Sochi. He had also been selected to play in the 2010 games in Vancouver, but was unable to play due to injury.

Josi is the first Nashville Predators player confirmed for the Olympic games. Others considered front-runners to make their country’s team are Sweden’s Filip Forsberg and Mattias Ekholm, and Finland’s Mikael Granlund and Juuse Saros. Eeli Tolvanen (Finland) and prospect Simon Knak (Switzerland) are two other names who could be in the mix depending on how their upcoming seasons play out. Predators Head Coach John Hynes will also head to Beijing as an assistant coach for Team U.S.A.

The 2022 Winter Olympics will begin February 4th. The men’s hockey gold medal game will take place on February 20th, the last day of the games. The NHL will take a 20-day break from action while players compete.
