Saturday’s Dump & Chase: Home and Home

Nashville Predators News & Notes

Has Juuse Saros Already Taken Over the Predators’ Starting Goalie Job? | On the Forecheck
Signs point to yes, according to my Magic 8 Ball (my Magic 8 Ball may not be accurate, seeing as how it’s just a hunk of plastic and some weird liquid stuff). Nick takes a look at what’s happening, what’s been said, and what hasn’t been said.

Nashville Predators’ Busy Weekend with Hockey Is For Everyone | On the Forecheck
I’m going to assume the Sportsnet editorial desk read my bulletpoints while they were thinking about things they could cover. Anyway, lotsa stuff going on downtown this weekend!

Mike Marson on challenges he faced as NHL’s second black player | Sportsnet.ca
“But I could tell you when I turned pro, I was the only person of colour on the planet playing hockey at that level. And I was a teenager.”

The NHL let Marson down badly.

Where do we play from here? Potential markets for women’s hockey expansion | The Ice Garden
All right, so Nashville isn’t going to happen any time soon (grumble, mutter), but this isn’t the first time that the TIG staff have pointed out that there’s a huge hockey market in Milwaukee, including support for (NCAA) women’s hockey. What do we have to do to get the Admirals a sister team, because I’m in.

Bruce Boudreau fired, Wild names Evason interim coach | ProHockeyTalk | NBC Sports
If Paul Fenton were still in their office, you have to think Peter Laviolette would already be on his way north.

I’m glad the procedure was successful, and I hope he’ll be all right.

Some possible defenses for Zach Kassian kicking Erik Cernak | Raw Charge
Kicking people with skate blades is, um, bad. Raw Charge’s JustinG came up with a few suggestions for Kassian’s defense (my favorite is the one blaming the rotation of the earth for the kick, but there are a lot of good ones).

Oilers’ Zack Kassian suspended seven games for kicking Erik Cernak | Sportsnet.ca
Guess either he didn’t try any of those defenses, or they somehow didn’t work.

Improved scoring depth helps make Avalanche Stanley Cup contender | ProHockeyTalk | NBC Sports
Believe it or not, this article was written yesterday, not in July. Are there people only just now realizing that the Avs are a Stanley Cup contender and probably the team to beat in the West?

Canadiens clinging to hope that miracle run to playoffs is still possible | Sportsnet.ca
The adjective “miracle” is really the key word in this headline.

Scott Howson picked as next AHL president | ProHockeyTalk | NBC Sports
Oh. Wow. The AHL’s Board of Governors unanimously elected a former NHL general manager as its president. I’m so shocked. He brings such a fresh perspective on hocke–

Wait a minute, the guy’s currently doing player development for the Edmonton Oilers and they’re offering him a position being in charge of the entire AHL? Folks, I’m not going to say I’d necessarily do a better job than Howson, but there’s nothing in my resume that should be as scary to the Board as Howson’s should, either. They might want to seriously reconsider their definition of a safe bet.
