Crosby vs. McDavid: A timeline of every superstar showdown | Sportsnet.ca
Crosby isn’t popular around these parts, but McDavid has yet to be on the wrong side of a Preds playoff battle. I can’t help but feel like opinions on McDavid will also change if he’s a big part of again denying the Preds a Cup.

Hurricanes go penalty kick, not shootout, in latest Storm Surge | ProHockeyTalk
I’m so very here for the Storm Surge. The Hurricanes are presumably having fun; their fans are definitely having fun; and I bet this one made Don Cherry even angrier than usual. More, please.

Q&A: Selanne on Finnish hockey and his stint teaching kindergarten | Sportsnet.ca
Teaching kindergarten is definitely one way to burn off some extra energy.

Q&A with HPK’s Riikka Noronen | The Ice Garden
I didn’t set out to run a pair of interviews with a pair of Finnish legends who’ve both taught kindergarten as well as playing hockey, but here we are. The 36-year-old Noronen is still setting records, and chatted with The Ice Garden’s Meredith Foster about her careers.

NHL teams, players on torrid pace after high-scoring October | Sportsnet.ca
It hasn’t been just Preds games–there have been a truly ludicrous number of goals this month.

Five players that could be on the move | ProHockeyTalk
I’d definitely take Jesse Puljujarvi if the Preds could get him cheaply. Any names on this list you’re interested in?

NWHL Stock Report: Spooky Edition | The Ice Garden
I feel like the Connecticut Whale should either totally revise their penalty kill strategy or just stop taking penalties completely.

Truth By Numbers: How Pettersson-Miller connection is transforming Canucks | Sportsnet.ca
The Canucks are having a good season, the Devils are not, and there’s a quick look at how good Filip Forsberg has been in his few games played so far towards the end.

Stunning numbers from first month of NHL season | ProHockeyTalk
The thing where the Preds have been relying on their bottom six for offense the last few games has been weird and frustrating, but at least they have more than three players who can score.

Why Winnipeg Jets should consider splitting up Scheifele-Wheeler duo | Sportsnet.ca
Somehow I just don’t quite buy Paul Maurice’s explanation of his line blender with “You can do through and do your expected goals model”. Somehow.

Lightning can’t stop Islanders, the NHL’s hottest team | ProHockeyTalk
In news that will shock everyone, the New York Islanders under Barry Trotz–and Mitch Korn, somehow not mentioned at all in this article–are getting some superb goaltending.

Jets GM on Dustin Byfuglien: ‘It’s a complicated issue’ | Sportsnet.ca
It definitely feels like the Jets are up to something shady here, though I could be doing them an injustice.

Devils bits: Standing up for Jack Hughes, trading for Domingue | ProHockeyTalk
1. The conditions on that Domingue trade’s conditional pick are really, really specific for a seventh-round pick–basically, if the Devils get any use out of him at all this year, they’ll give up a seventh-rounder at the end of the 2020-21 season. Sure.

2. Kyle Palmieri’s fight with Matt Niskanen over a hit on Jack Hughes is one of those instances of fighting that everyone who doesn’t want to just ban fighting completely feels “should” be what a hockey fight is–avenging an alarming hit on a star player who is also a rookie–and it’s important to note that it was a skill player who was quite reasonably sharing ice with Hughes at the time of the hit who took the fight.
