Reading Recommendations:

[Fiction] Memoirs of a Geisha – Arthur Golden – A great story, with a wealth of information on the real lives of geisha – not simply the stereotypes.

[Fiction] Rising Sun – Michael Crichton – One of my favorite authors. Again, if you’ve seen the movie, wipe your memory and come at it fresh.

[Biography] Child Star: An Autobiography – Shirley Temple Black – Everything you want to know – straight from the source.

[Biography] Dolly – Dolly Parton – As much as you think you know about Dolly, you’ll learn more.

[Horror] Interview With The Vampire – Anne Rice – Put Tom Cruise as far out of your mind as you can, though Brad Pitt and Kirsten Dunst did good jobs. The opener of Anne Rice’s vampire books is a page turner.

[Sports] A Guy Like Me – John Scott – If you don’t already love him, you will. This book is the reason I boo Gary Bettman.

[Romance] The Kadin – Beatrice Small – I’m usually not much on the historical romance genre (Outlander excepted), but you will remember these characters and the historical details for years to come.

[Sci-Fi] The Number of The Beast – Robert Heinlein – I don’t know what the proper entry point to Heinlein’s “Past through Tomorrow” stories is, but this one got me started. It also started a disturbing trend of authors dying right when I became obsessed with them.
