Tuesday’s Dump & Chase: Make Your Voice Heard

We have plenty of hockey links to get your day started. But first, a quick note to all of our loyal OTFers.

It’s Election Day here in the United States, a fact most of you have been reminded of constantly over the past several months. As easy as it is to become jaded or fatigued by the onslaught of ads, political discussion on social media, or the countless calls and texts from campaigners, we can’t forget ALL of our lives will be impacted in some way, shape, or form by the issues at stake.  So if you haven’t done so yet, please, go out and vote.

But at the same time, please don’t forget to take care of yourself.

This is a lot to take in, and the barrage of polling updates can easily become overwhelming.  So if you need to, give yourself a break. Turn off the laptop or phone, take a break from social media, go take a walk outside, play with your pets and kids. Do something that keeps you grounded today.

Now…back to hockey.

Predators News & Notes

Josi, Ellis Named to NHL Network’s List of Top 20 Current Defensemen | Nashville Predators
Despite winning the Norris Trophy, Josi ISN’T the number one name on the list (which…I actually kind of agree with in this case?) Side note, it’s good to see Ellis get some recognition.

Preds Launch Smashville Donates Campaign, Hockey Fights Cancer Month | Nashville Predators
This is always a great cause. Please consider helping out if you have the means.

Nashville Predators Need Some Swedish Success in 2021 | Nashville Predators
An interesting take on how the Preds’ four Swedish players (Forsberg, Arvidsson, Järnkrok, Ekholm) could make or break the team’s success next season. Järnkrok’s role especially will be intriguing to watch. He’s a guy that doesn’t look out of place on any line and can be used in a lot of different situations.

It sounds like there’s still hope we could see the start of training camps by the end of the calendar year. Regardless, be prepared for at least one more “not normal” NHL season.

Blue Jackets facing delicate contract negotiation with Pierre-Luc Dubois | ProHockeyTalk | NBC Sports
The CBJs have had a long, messy history with restricted free agents—including a particularly bitter situation with Ryan Johansen that led to his Smashville move a year later. If Columbus wants to stay competitive, they can’t afford any of that nonsense with Dubois.

Kahun agrees to one-year, $975,000 contract with Oilers | NHL.com
The Oilers have made some sneaky-good offensive pickups this offseason. Now if they can just figure out that whole “playing defense” thing…

NHL Power Rankings: Seattle Kraken coaching candidates | Yahoo Sports
There’s a bunch of “usual suspects” on this list, but also a few wildcards (love me some Rikard Grönborg).

Brendan Shanahan and the secret Olympic letter he wrote to himself | Sportsnet
The whole conversation also includes an awesome story about Shanahan calling Will Arnett after taking the Maple Leafs front office job.
