Tuesday’s Dump & Chase: We’re Pro-Prokop

Nashville Predators News and Notes

Preds prospect Luke Prokop comes out as gay | On the Forecheck
I’m not going to stop gushing over Luke Prokop, and I apologize for nothing.

I wrote in the piece yesterday about why Luke’s coming out, and the flow of support that followed, is such a feel-good story for a Preds fanbase in desperate need of something positive to rally around. I’m thrilled to see that the vast majority of comments we’ve seen from the OTF community have been respectful and celebratory in nature. Please continue to keep it that way.

‘This is who I am’: Predators prospect Luke Prokop comes out | The Athletic
Here’s the full interview Prokop did with The Athletic’s Pierre LeBrun, in which he details his “process” for coming out (his words), and some of the thoughts, challenges, and doubts he faced along the way. Unlike most pieces from The Athletic, there’s no paywall here; it’s free for all.

Hey, more games against Carolina, Tampa Bay, and Florida!

Nashville Predators Draft Board: Round 2 | On the Forecheck
The Preds have two picks in the second round of this year’s draft. Eric breaks down the guys who may be on the board.

Nashville’s 2021 Off-Season Shake-Up Isn’t Over Yet | A to Z Sports Nashville
I’m going to guess we’re going to see one more significant contract off the books by the time the season starts. Whether or not that happens at the expansion draft is another matter.

Speaking of roster changes, we have some jersey number news, and the reaction to it has been… hoo boy…

I mean, I totally get that most fans have grown to associate 6 with “Shea’s number.” But he’s been off the team for five seasons now, he’s still in the league, and it’s not retired (and I’m not really sure it WILL be retired, to be honest). It’s not like he came to town this week and asked for #35.

Who knows, maybe if he gets a Norris nomination in the next few years, we’ll all forget about this “controversy.”

Other Hockey Happenings

Creating the Kraken: a mock Seattle expansion draft | PensBurgh
Our friends at PensBurgh took a krak (ba dum chh) at predicting Seattle’s expansion picks. I’m afraid the guy they chose from Nashville is going to be the guy the Preds lose in the end.

Carey Price showed his value in playoffs. Now Seattle will weigh it. | Eyes On The Prize
I think it’s worth Seattle taking a look at Price for the sake of trying to recreate Vegas’s Marc-André Fleury magic. But I also think there are some huge differences between where Price is as a player now and where Fleury was back in 2017. If I had to guess, I’m going to say Ron Francis goes elsewhere for his three goaltenders (one of whom appears to be Chris Driedger), but the Kraken are going to take a long look at this.

Marshawn Lynch, Shawn Kemp, Sue Bird among Seattle stars announcing Kraken expansion draft picks | ESPN
Please let this somehow end with Marshawn Lynch driving Dylan DeMelo out onto the stage on a training cart.

Does Nick Foligno make sense for the Minnesota Wild? | Hockey Wilderness
The Wild reportedly have strong interest in Foligno (whose brother is also on the Minnesota roster).

Goodrow, Rangers talking contract, GM confident deal will get done | NHL.com
Frank Servalli says the deal may wind up being an AAV of $3.6M (fine) for six years (not fine).

Sources: NHL to schedule a break for the 2022 Winter Olympics; player participation not yet guaranteed | ESPN
The 2018 Olympics definitely didn’t have the same buzz as the previous two winter games without the NHL players there.

Today’s Song To Get You HYPED

I’ve gotten this mood a lot while covering the Preds these past few weeks…
