On the one hand, the rebrand is a cool idea both in principle (as discussed, defining the players as elite athletes rather than elite female athletes) and in practice (the NWHL already welcomed transgender players under its old name, but the Premier Hockey Federation can do so without defining them as women if they’re not).

On the other hand, “National Women’s Hockey League” defined the league pretty clearly: it was a top-level North American pro league. “Premier Hockey Federation” lacks that familiarity; it sounds vaguely like it might be somewhere in Europe, to me. Here’s hoping it works out.
