It’s been fifty-one days since Peter Laviolette lost his job as head coach of the Nashville Predators. Now, we know what he’ll be up to next.

Laviolette has been named head coach of the U.S. Men’s National Team, and will lead the squad at the upcoming IIHF World Championships.
“It’s great to have Peter as our head coach,” said USMNT General Manager Chris Drury in a press release. “He brings significant international experience, both as a player and a coach, and his passion and desire to win align with our goal of bringing home the gold medal.”
Of course, this isn’t Laviolette’s first rodeo with Team USA. This will be his fourth stint coaching at the World Championships. His last one came at the 2014 tournament, which happened just days after accepting the Predators’ head coaching job. Laviolette has also has experience on the U.S.A. Olympic team — as both a head coach (2006 games in Turin) and an assistant (2014 games in Sochi).
This year’s IIHF World Championships will take place in Switzerland from May 8 through May 24. Hopefully, the likes of Nick Bonino and Craig Smith will be too busy with a playoff run to worry about a possible reunion with their old coach.
