Monday’s Dump & Chase: Dawn of the Final Day

Nashville News & Analysis

Nashville finished the preseason with just one win, but as we always preach – the preseason doesn’t matter. Everyone came out of the exhibition games healthy – which is better than several teams in the NHL – and I think the team and this fanbase are ready to start the next chapter tomorrow night.

We’ve seen some pieces move already since this was published – Marc Del Gaizo was sent down followed by the surprising assignment of Denis Gurianov to Milwaukee after passing through waivers this weekend. Still, there’s still a couple players left for a final spot, likely down to Michael McCarron and Kiefer Sherwood.

I was surprised, but I wouldn’t count out Gurianov or write him off as a failure just yet. Karl Taylor in Milwaukee has been great at developing players in the pipeline, and this assignment could be just what Gurianov needs to find his groove.

I personally thought Del Gaizo had earned a spot on the roster, but he’s still young enough that he will benefit from time in Milwaukee to get better. But I guarantee we’ll see him again in the regular season pretty soon.

Milwaukee took care of business in their preseason opener against the newly-independent Chicago Wolves. Their roster is starting to take shape with just one more expected assignment from Nashville, and Karl Taylor is hoping to lead this team to a Calder Cup Championship after coming close last season.

So much hockey – thank God it’s back!

Around the NHL

I will forever die on the hill that David Poile and Peter Laviolette handled Ryan Hartman badly after giving up a first-round pick to Chicago to get him. Well, Hartman has earned his worth and now is rewarded with a new deal from the Wild.

Great piece from Greg, who helps to remind me that not everyone is plugged into the NHL all-day, every day.

Hopefully this is nothing serious, Josh Norris is a really fun player to watch and looks to be one of the centerpieces of the Senators as they look to rebuild.

We’ve reached the end of the offseason, but don’t you worry, we still have “oh, ok” type trades that even the fanbases think “that’s nice, I suppose”

Someone is going to claim Joel Armia, and I think it’s a great idea.

Good for ZAR – I’m guessing the two-way contract means they may not see too much of him in Detroit immediately.
