Monday’s Dump & Chase: Hits?

[College] Hockey Officially Delayed Until Late November

The Hockey Commissioners Association released a joint statement today, confirming what was basically already assumed—the college hockey season is pushed back indefinitely, with the earliest start time being Nov. 20.

However, the individual conferences still could delay hockey past the Nov. 20 date.

Foo forgoes senior season at Union, signs two-year KHL deal with Beijing-based Red Star

That’s an…unorthodox career move. However, Foo’s brother (who also played for Union) is on Red Star.

2020 NHL Awards predictions: Draisaitl for Hart, Makar for Calder?

It’s still highway robbery that Connor Hellebuyck wasn’t a Hart finalist.

Tampa Bay Lightning’s Steven Stamkos inching closer to return against Dallas Stars

Will certainly be interesting how fit Stamkos will be if/when he returns.

Out of Bubble Teams, Predators 23rd Out of 24 in Hits/60 (via @thehockeyopinion on Instagram).

Interesting. On one hand, hits are generally an atrocious indicator of if a team is successful. Teams don’t generate hits when they have the puck—or, if they do, they get two minutes for interference. Usually if a team hits a lot, they are defending. Teams can still be physical and not hit a lot simply because they are too busy controlling play, with the Colorado Avalanche being a great example. Additionally, a modern school of tactic thought is that hitting removes the hitter from the rest of the play, a theory with substantial support.

Nonetheless, four of the top five teams made the conference finals. It certainly looks like hitting has been a winning formula. Coincidence or causation? Sound off in the comments.
