San Jose Sharks 3, Nashville Predators 2 (SO): Preds Flub Shootout, Sharks Snatch Victory

After the Sharks fought back in the 3rd period to tie it up 2-2, the Predators lost in a shootout at home tonight. They got a point, which brings them to 92, five ahead of Minnesota.

Shea Weber and Calle Jarnkrok scored early on for the Preds, who were simply not the better team tonight. Carter Hutton played great in goal, but the Sharks were dominating possession almost all night. The Preds could not maintain an offensive possession to save their lives in the 3rd period, and then Tomas Hertl scored twice to tie things up.

In 3-on-3, the Preds did a solid job of fighting off a Sharks power-play, and James Neal nearly won the game in the dying seconds. But this time it was the shootout getting the better of the Preds, instead of 3-on-3. Logan Couture scored the game-winning shootout goal for the Sharks. None of the three Preds shooters (Filip Forsberg, Ryan Johansen, Craig Smith) even got off a shot.

It was that kind of night. Need to get these out of the way, I suppose.

3 Stars of the Contest:

Tomas Hertl – Not only did he had a very good night, he also didn’t assault a young Swedish player near the net.

Calle Jarnkrok – There are games when he really looks at home on the top line. This was one of them.

The guy in the Vince Young Jersey in the Lexus Lounge – Bonus points for halfway resembling Jake Locker.
