Nashville Predators 4, Tampa Bay Lightning 3. P.K.’s Debut

In front of a sold out crowd at Bridgestone Arena, prized offseason aquisition P.K. Subban made his debut in Predators gold. He had quite the night tallying a goal and an assist in the Predators 4-3 win.

Random Observations

  • P.K. Subban fits right in with Nashville. His slap shot may not be 108 miles per hour, but he can certainly score with it.
  • Freddy Gaudreau has got some slick moves.
  • Kevin Fiala does not want to go back to Milwaukee. Playing on a line with Johansen and Forsberg, he is being given every chance to prove his belongs in the NHL.
  • Preseason Mike Ribeiro > playoff Mike Ribeiro.
  • Man is Cody Bass entertaining. In the second period he and Luke Witkowski dropped the gloves and gave the crowd a show. He also (uncharacteristically) scored the game winner.
  • It’s weird seeing a Weber jersey with the number seven on it.
  • The fourth line should be much improved with Colton Sissons at center.
  • There is not an inch of ice that Miikka Salomaki does not cover. He is everywhere you look and may be someone to keep an eye on when the season starts.
  • Filip Forsberg is in midseason form. He is still the most dangerous Predator with the puck in his hands. He has shown he can make even the best skaters look foolish with his puck handling skills. /

OTF’s Stars of the Game

  • P.K. Subban. Even though it was only the preseason, what a debut. Subban fit right in with his new Nashville teammates. He assisted Fisher on the Predators first goal of the game and later scored a goal of his own in the second period. As if that wasn’t enough, he was the first to come to Filip Forsberg’s aid when he was on the receiving end of a brutal hit in the first period.
  • Mike Fisher. The new Predators captain got the scoring started for Nashville when he buried a feed from P.K. Subban past Lightning goalie Ben Bishop.
  • Mike Ribeiro. I guess Ribeiro took David Poile’s “summer of his life” comment to heart. Ribeiro scored a power play goal on a beautiful pass from Filip Forsberg and also notched an assist. This was a far cry from the Mike Ribeiro we saw in the San Jose playoff series. /
