Nashville Predators 7, Ottawa Senators 5: Sissons, Fourth Line Dazzle

If you blinked in this one, you probably missed a goal or two. It was a game that saw tons of them and even more chances. The Predators and the Senators definitely did not disappoint tonight at the Bridgestone Arena.

The game started out with goals galore. Ottawa started off the scoring with 2 quick goals from Milan Michalek and Zack Smith. The Predators quickly replied with a goal by Colton Sissons to cut the lead in half. Zack Smith then scored his second of the game for the Senators to put them back up by 2 goals. Shea Weber then scored on the man advantage in the second period to bring it back to a one score game. Roman Josi scored shortly after to tie the game up for Nashville.

*gasps for air*

It didn’t stop there as Austin Watson got in on the action to put the Preds up by one. The second period wasn’t over there though as Erik Karlsson tied it back up. Curtis Lazar added another one for the Sens to give them a goal lead going into the second intermission. Mattias Ekholm tied it back up for the Predators early in the third period. Barret Jackman added the go-ahead goal half way through the last period. It wasn’t done there though as Gabriel Bourque put Nashville up by 2.

In the end, Nashville prevails 7-5.

Random Observations

  • Well that didn’t take too long. Granted, the Senators’ goal was on the man advantage, but you still hate to see early goals given up in a game.
  • On a side note, the stat they mentioned about Rinne’s record when he gave up 4 or more goals in a game is kind of surprising. I guess that just shows you how competitive this team stays in games all the way through.
  • This game escalated to out of hand status quickly.
  • Colton Sissons making his case to stay on the roster for a while! That was also a much needed, timely goal.
  • Man the Preds’ powerplay is becoming an issue. They can’t get complacent on the man advantage and just bank on scoring 5v5. No way they can sustain without scoring on the man advantage.
  • And I spoke too soon. Thank God for Shea Weber!
  • The defense is came up big on the offensive side of things tonight. It makes me even happier when Erik Karlsson is on the ice for any goals scored on them.
  • I swear, I blinked and the Preds went from down 1 to up by 1 goal in the second period. What the hell just happened. Oh well, I’m not complaining.
  • Guys, of course Karlsson would score when I bad mouthed him. That’s just life.
  • Special teams are just killing the Predators lately. They have allowed two power play goals in each of the last three games they have played.
  • On a side note, I saw a promo for the All-Star game and Fan Fair in Nashville this season, and I am super excited about it. It will finally show the league a chance to see how much this city loves its hockey and the Predators.
  • I love the way the young guns played tonight (Sissons and Watson). They worked their butts off and got a couple of goals between them to show for it.
  • Rinne had a rough night tonight all around. He allowed 5 goals on just 13 shots through two periods of this game. That is very uncharacteristic of him and this team. With that said, Rinne still makes some timely saves late in games to keep the Preds in it.
  • Puck don’t lie! Wilson was robbed by the post on only to have Jackman score seconds after in the third period.
  • So…..many……goals….I can’t keep up with all this scoring (That’s not a bad thing by any means).

  • Colton Sisson: This kid has some talent. Let’s hope we see more of it this season
  • Austin Watson: I gotta give the young kids some love tonight. They stepped up when the team needed goals bad.
  • I am going to give it to the entire defensive corps. They had a great showing today on the offensive end of things. /

Regardless, the app falls to 2-13 on the season.
