Nashville Predators 9, Toronto Maple Leafs 2: A Drubbing In Canada

The Nashville Predators came out swinging in Toronto, and never looked back. The Preds dominated the Maple Leafs tonight. They were led by a surprising performance from the fourth line. Taylor Beck, to be specific, led the charge for Nashville. But he isn’t the only one that deserves credit. The entire Predators team played excellent tonight.

Beck scored the first goal of the game within the opening minutes of the game. Derek Roy followed that up with a goal of his own. Beck then tallied one on the man advantage to give the Preds a 3-0 lead in the first period. Eric Nystrom continued the scoring in the second. The scoring didn’t stop there though. Mike Ribeiro, Filip Forsberg, Calle Jarnkrok, Colin Wilson, and Roman Josi all tallied in the third. Pekka Rinne’s shutout bid was denied though when Mike Santorelli put on past him. Nazem Kadri got another one in just minutes after Santorelli’s goal.

Random Observations

  • In my last recap, I mentioned that the Predators rarely start two games in a row slowly. And they proved that tonight. Taylor Beck started a quick night with a goal just minutes into the game. This was after James Neal had a great chance just seconds earlier.
  • You know it wouldn’t be a typical Preds game without giving up a shorthanded opportunity. It has become a common trend that I do not enjoy. The only reason why I can think that Laviolette hasn’t is because their 5v5 play has been spectacular. It’s still no excuse though. On a side note, it sure is nice seeing the second line get into the scoring action as well. Derek Roy finally gets a goal.
  • The power play has looked significantly better the past week and a half or so. Taylor Beck got his second of the night on the man advantage. He had some great net presence. Maybe Lavi should think about using him more often on the power play. And also, #PrinceFilip got another point. No big deal.
  • Shea Weber and Roman Josi were like a firing squad out there tonight on the power play. They were just getting whatever shot they wanted out there. I am hoping that isn’t just a one night thing.
  • Tonight was the best the fourth has looked in a long time. I would say really since the first two games of the season. This is the secondary scoring that the Preds have been looking for all year. We knew the first line wouldn’t be able to carry the team all season long. It’s nice to see some other guys jumping in and contributing.
  • I would have thought that after being embarrassed by the Buffalo Sabres,that the Maple Leafs would have came out with some urgency tonight. They came out flat, and stayed flat all game. It looked like they just laid down after the third goal. The Ribeiro and Forsberg goals were only :33 seconds apart. Also worth mentioning that this is the first time this season that Nashville has scored more than four goals in a game.
  • When it rains, it pours. I couldn’t imagine being a Maple Leafs fan right now. Everyone got in on the scoring tonight. Just an all around great performance, top to bottom, for the Preds. It was disappointing to seeing Rinne lose the shutout, but I guess I can’t complain too much about the outcome of the game.

OTF’s Super Duper Stars of the Game

  • Taylor Beck. Yes, you read that correctly. TAYLOR BECK. Did I miss something, or did Toronto do something to make this guy angry?
  • Paul Gaustad. When Toronto was looking to fight, Goose stepped up to the plate a did it. Twice!
  • Filip Forsberg. He pretty much automatically gets a spot here if he scores a point in the game. Let’s be real, we would probably put him here even if he didn’t. #Cal9er #PrinceFilip/
