The Nashville Predators announced on Saturday that they have signed forward Trevor Smith to a two-year, two-way contract worth $575,000 at the NHL level and $175,000 at the AHL level in 2016-17, and $650,000 at the NHL level and $150,000 at the AHL level in 2017-18.
Smith’s last NHL team was the Toronto Maple Leafs where he scored two goals and added three helpers in 54 games during the 2014-15 season. Last season he had three goals and two assists in 17 games while playing with Bern SC of the Swiss League.
The 31-year-old could turn into a leader while in Milwaukee and is one of those players you “love to have” in your system.

Smith, 31 (2/8/85), helped Bern win the Swiss League title in 2015-16, posting five points (3g-2a) in 17 games. Prior to his one-season stint in Europe, the 6-foot-1, 192-pound Ottawa native played 106 NHL games, posting 20 points (9g-11a), and in 453 AHL games, amassing 346 points (153g-193a) for the New York Islanders (2006-10), Anaheim Ducks (2010-11), Columbus Blue Jackets (2010-11), Tampa Bay Lightning (2011-12), Pittsburgh Penguins (2012-13), and Toronto Maple Leafs (2013-15). He served as captain of the AHL’s Toronto Marlies in 2013-14 and 2014-15, and is a 2012 Calder Cup Champion with the Norfolk Admirals, tying for the postseason lead in points (5g-11a) after ranking among the AHL’s Top 10 in points (69) and assists (43) in 2011-12, earning him a spot in the AHL All-Star Classic.
Undrafted, Smith spent two seasons at the University of New Hampshire from 2005-07, posting 63 points (31g-32a) in 77 games. In 2006-07, he was a Second-Team All-American and First-Team All-Hockey East.
