Preds Acquire Ben Harpur for Miikka Salomaki

In Nashville’s first trade-related news before Monday’s trade deadline, the Nashville Predators announced on Saturday evening that Ben Harpur has been acquired from the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Harpur was traded for forward Miikka Salomaki.

Harpur is 25 years old and has 11 points (1 goal, 10 assists) with the Toronto Marlies this season. He is a fifth-year pro, measuring in at 6’ 6” and 230 pounds. Harpur has not suited up in a NHL contest this season. He has played in 163 AHL contests and also skated in 103 games with the Ottawa Senators.

Miikka Salomaki has only appeared in 5 contests with the Predators this season, posting just one goal. He’s spent the season with the Milwaukee Admirals.

Harpur’s acquisition is a little curious. Will he suit up with Nashville or will he report to the Admirals? With Jarred Tinordi in Nashville, Harpur’s acquisition suggests this is a depth move.

On The Forecheck will have an in-depth breakdown of Harpur’s game in the next few days.
