The folks over at The Ice Garden named their U25 first team from the 2021 IIHF Women’s World Championships.  Not only did Mike Murphy use film to evaluate the players, he also utilized hand-tracked data to provide even deeper analysis into who the best-performing players were at the tournament.

Tactics and Analytics

2021 Fantasy Hockey Projections | Evolving-Hockey
Even if you despise analytics, you still want to check out the fellas at Evolving Hockey for their 2021 fantasy hockey projections.  We are smack dab in the middle of draft season, so dig a little deeper into the data and get an edge when you’re selecting whatever fourth-line winger I’m shouting about on Twitter.

Evolving Hockey Podcast: Episode 3 | Evolving Hockey
The guys spend the third episode of their new podcast discussing the aforementioned fantasy hockey projections, plus talk about everything in the offseason and how each team projects to perform next season.  This is a great listen for your commute (or the walk from your bed to your desk chair, like I’ve done all quarantine).

The Power of Less in Practice Design – by Jack Han | The Hockey Tactics Newsletter
Jack’s work should be familiar to you all when you see my name in the byline.  In the first three pieces I’m featuring today, Jack talks about how to improve practices by working on some things LESS.  He covers several different skills/drills with video to support.  This is a great piece for hockey players at any level.

Better Team Practices, for Goalies – by Jack Han | The Hockey Tactics Newsletter
In the second piece by Jack today, he discusses how team practices can better benefit the skill development of the goaltenders.  For me, goalies are forever voodoo and the only thing goalie performance is linked to is probably something like what underwear they’re wearing. Goalies are weird, man.

Living Dangerously With John Klingberg – by Jack Han | The Hockey Tactics Newsletter
In the final piece by Jack Han, he takes a look at the sharp decline of Dallas Stars defender John Klingberg and whether he declined naturally or is a poor fit for head coach Rick Bowness’s system.  I will always remember John Klingberg for one thing, so maybe check out today’s Video of the Day for reference.

Kaprizov contract negotiations with Wild ‘pretty slow right now’ | NHL.com
Last season’s Calder Trophy winner and restricted free agent Kirill Kaprizov is not much closer to a deal with the Minnesota Wild, but both sides seem optimistic it will eventually get done. It would be just awful if they didn’t. We’d sure hate to see it.

Speaking of John Klingberg…
