Tuesday’s Dump & Chase: Last of the Late Nights

Smashville News:

First off, an observation – whoever was taking pictures for Getty at the Edmonton Oilers game has to be related to Jarred Tinordi. It seemed like 80% of the Nashville Predators player photos were of him or included him.

Nashville Predators to Celebrate Hockey is for Everyone Month in February | NHL.com
WOW – If you make it through all this, you’ll realize how busy February is. I bet when all of this was planned, the planners didn’t envision being out of a playoff spot and the need for the players to focus on hockey. Also, just how many players have their own suites?

Mikael Granlund breaking out in unusual role for Nashville Predators | A to Z Sports
“As the Nashville Predators push for a playoff berth, players like Mikael Granlund are setting an example and stepping up.”

Nashville Predators to trade places with Southwest Airlines employees | WKRN News 2
Though I really love the community outreach and commitment of the Nashville Predators organization, is this really the right time to be taking the guys off task? That said, I hope they get some good video.

Rick Bowness’ subtle changes are noticeable after two months as Dallas Stars interim head coach | Dallas News
Interesting look at the details of player management for the Dallas Stars.

Blues see a tightening Central Division field in their rear-view mirrors | stltoday.com
Remember when this title could have been about us? Also, did I miss the dads’ (or moms’) trip – or was it replaced by the Winter Classic?

Q&A with Blackhawks GM Bowman on trade deadline approach | NBC Sports Chicago
This is the best example I have ever seen of taking a whole, whole lot of words to really say nothing at all. GM speak at its best! Good job, Stan Bowman!

Other Hockey News:

Seth Jones to have ankle surgery | The Columbus Dispatch
Oh no! Poor Seth Jones. Not that I ever had much respect for John Tortorella, but to allow him to continue to play when he was obviously hurt is just irresponsible coaching. “He wanted to play” is not an excuse.

Former Canucks Daniel, Henrik Sedin have no regrets over retirement decision | TSN.ca
“Note to readers: This is a corrected story. A previous version had the incorrect draft year for the Sedins.” This is a great update on Daniel Sedin and Henrik Sedin. As I clipped it Monday evening, it had obviously not been proofread for grammar and spelling. So, it took a lot of guts to add that note.

Elias Pettersson is the latest in a long line of NHL stars who are targets of on-ice abuse | TheHockeyNews
“Blame the fact that the levers of power in this league are inordinately controlled by former marginal players who made a career out of playing that way.” Wow. Had this piece been available Saturday after the game, torchforks would have been lit in Louisville. Now that things have calmed down, I’ll just say – wow.

Coronavirus is affecting the supply of sticks in the NHL | The Boston Globe
Don’t be expecting to see so many sticks given to the kids for awhile. Unless your favorite players uses Warrior.

Mark Madden: NHL players need to wear full face shields | TribLIVE.com
This piece shifts from a justifiable rant against the glacial movement of safety upgrades in the NHL to an analysis of deadline moves the Pittsburgh Penguins might make. The first part is the most interesting. I didn’t know that full face protection was illegal (except when medically required). I just assumed no one wanted to wear it.

Hockey is Magic: Episode 15 | NHL.com
This trick is great. You know it’s sleight of hand somehow, but how???
