Tuesday’s Dump & Chase: Lottery disappointments

Chicago Blackhawks win 2023 NHL Draft Lottery and right to select phenom Connor Bedard first overall
The Connor Bedard sweepstakes are over. The Chicago Blackhawks won the 2023 NHL Draft Lottery and will have the opportunity to make Bedard the first overall selection. The Blackhawks came into Monday night’s lottery with the third-best odds to select…

I don’t think anyone wanted this, except for some Blackhawks fans. Yikes.

On the brink again, do Toronto’s ‘Core Four’ still believe in themselves?
Despite finally getting past Round 1, the Toronto Maple Leafs have quickly found themselves on the brink of elimination in a disappointing way yet again. So why does this core keep failing in big moments, and do they still believe in themselves?

D Heiskanen injured as Stars lose to ‘better team’
Dallas defenseman Miro Heiskanen, 23, was injured in the second period of Sunday night’s 7-2 to the Seattle Kraken, when he was struck in the face with a puck, and could miss Game 4 with the Stars trailing this second-round series, 2-1.

A huge loss for the Stars right there.

Golden Knights goaltender Brossoit injured vs. Oilers, replaced by Hill
Vegas Golden Knights goaltender Laurent Brossoit had to be helped off the ice after making a save in the first period against the Edmonton Oilers in Game 3 of their Western Conference semifinal.

And a rough couple of games in general in the West.

Samsonov could return for Maple Leafs in Game 4 against Panthers
The Toronto Maple Leafs are hopeful goalie Ilya Samsonov will be able to play in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Second Round but would have no issues turning to rookie goalie Joseph Woll.

Getting Samsonov back could benefit the Leafs, if he’s actually well enough to play. If he isn’t, it’s a worse idea than keeping him out.

Devils forward Tatar fined $5K for high-sticking
The NHL fined New Jersey Devils forward Tomas Tatar $5,000 on Monday for high-sticking Carolina’s Sebastian Aho during Sunday’s Game 3.

Oh. Boy. A $5,000 fine. Gosh.
