Tuesday’s Dump & Chase: Tomasino SZN
Roster news, a prospect’s big night, and an A+ prank highlight Tuesday’s links
Nashville Predators News & Notes
First off, according to The Athletic’s Adam Vingan, the Predators’ opening night roster is set. And yes, that thing you wanted to happen happened.

I’ll have a more in depth breakdown coming later today, but the short-form reaction is I like this roster to start. I don’t think there’s really anyone in that mix (yes, ANYONE) that looked wildly out of place during the preseason games. Philip Tomasino, of course, is the headliner here. Which leads us to....
Is this Preds prospect Philip Tomasino’s year? | On the Forecheck
As Shaun notes, the "competitive rebuild" David Poile has touted is a strong sign that players like Tomasino and Glass may get a longer leash than some past prospects at the start of the season. If things go haywire and Tomasino looks like he REALLY needs more seasoning, he's waiver-exempt, so no harm in letting him spend some games in the minors here and there.
The Preds losing Rem Pitlick is an organizational problem | On the Forecheck
This is a very well thought-out, well-written piece by Jeff. That being said, I'm not as "fire and brimstone" over this as others. For starters, Rem Pitlick was a fun player to watch while he was up here, but it's not like they let a future #1 center fall through the cracks. The dude had 2 points in 11 career games spread across three seasons. Could he have developed into a decent 3rd/4th-line guy in a couple of years? Of course. But that also leads me to another question: Who among the current group of forwards would you cut in favor of Pitlick? I would argue every guy who made the opening night roster A.) has earned their spot, B.) had a stronger camp/preseason than Pitlick, and C.) had more impactful NHL experience (except for Philip Tomasino... but be honest, if Tomasino got sent to Milwaukee, the pitchforks and torches would have come out anyway).

Nichol's done a fantastic job of developing some diamonds in the rough the past handful of seasons. Certainly a well-earned promotion.
A magic Monday for Jack Matier of the 67's | Ottawa Sun
Matier, the Preds' 2021 4th-round pick, started the day by signing a three-year ELC with Nashville. Two minutes after the Preds' PR team announced the news, Matier scored his first career OHL goal. Over the next two hours, he added another goal and three assists. Overall, not a bad day.

It was also a solid night for another Preds prospect, Luke Evangelista. The 2020 2nd-rounder had two goals in London’s 4-3 win over Windsor.
By the end of the night, the Preds had two prospects on the OHL’s “stars of the night” list.
