Viktor Stalberg Injury: Winger Out 3-4 Weeks

After leaving last night’s pre-season game between the Nashville Predators and Tampa Bay Lightning in the first period with an upper body injury, Viktor Stalberg is being held out of the Preds’ remaining exhibition games, according to head coach Barry Trotz. In his post-game comments last night, Trotz said that they will need a few days to let the injury “settle down”, and that Stalberg won’t play in the two remaining contests (tonight at Washington, and Friday on Long Island).

UPDATE: This morning the Preds released the following:

If Stalberg’s injury lingers into the regular season, which for Nashville opens on October 3rd at St. Louis, this may open up an opportunity for one more forward to stick with the team for a little longer. While we recently discussed the battle between Filip Forsberg and Taylor Beck in light of the most recent round of cuts, one other player is working himself into the mix, Switzerland’s Simon Moser. A 24-year-old forward who has played in pro leagues over in Switzerland, Moser scored the opening goal against the Lightning and appears to be impressing Trotz.

Go back and listen to Trotz’s post-game presser, and you’ll hear the coach talk about how familiar they are with Moser’s game from watching him play for Switzerland at the World Championships, and some of the “small area” skills that he brings to the team. For more on Moser, including a look at how he and the Predators still would have to agree on a contract, check out Jim Diamond’s article from last night.

Might Moser become the next Joel Ward, a late-blooming forward who comes out of nowhere to earn a job with the Preds? It looks like we have an interesting story to watch here over the final week of training camp…
