Want to write for On the Forecheck?

As On the Forecheck grows and the Nashville Predators news continues to roll in at a breakneck pace, there’s only so much that Dirk and I can keep up with. There’s quite a lot that we’d like to cover, but not enough time in the day. With that in mind, we decided to make available the position of another author or two here at OtF.

After the jump, I’ll take a look at some guidelines and instructions.

Requirements/Miscellaneous

  • Be a Nashville Predators fan. Seems simple enough, but its what makes this site what it is – by fans, for fans.
  • Be available to communicate with Dirk and/or myself on a regular basis. For example, if one author can’t get to a specific game preview that night and needs to offload the responsibility, availability is key.
  • Have the ability to write reasonably and write well. We’re not looking for an English major, necessarily, but the ability to compose a good argument and make clear points is important.
  • Be willing to respond to feedback and actively participate in community discussion. If you write something, its important to follow the comment stream and answer any objections or questions – this keeps lively conversations going and helps keep readers coming back.
  • Be open, though not required, to having the SBNation tech support change your user name to a more recognizable name, i.e. ‘Chris Burton’.
  • There’s no financial reward involved, merely the satisfaction in seeing your name next to stories that will appear on various news sites such as Yahoo!, CBS Sports, and Google News. Heck, my game preview for Game 1 of the Chicago series was featured on the front page of NHL.com – so you never know.
  • If you have a particular angle you’d like to cover or feature to offer (such as Admirals-centric, major junior Preds prospects such as Ryan Ellis, etc.), be sure to make that clear.

Instructions

If you think you’d like to invest the time and make the commitment to come on board here, then here’s what you need to do. Choose a topic (hockey), and write about it in a FanPost (if you have any questions on how to do that, try this nifty guide from Defending Big D – it applies to any SB Nation site). It can be about the Predators or the NHL, but it needs to be at least 500 words long. You can submit it anytime between now and Friday, August 13. We’ll do our best to make a decision over the following weekend. No profanity, and while I did say we’re not looking for any English majors, proper spelling and grammar are paramount.

Conclusion

So you think you have what it takes to cover the Nashville Predators? Then get to writing! With all the activity over the summer and a great team set to be iced, its truly an exciting time to be a Preds fan. If you have any questions about the process, feel free to catch us on Twitter (@Forechecker & @predatweeter) or via our email addresses which are located at the very bottom of the page next to our usernames.
