Wednesday’s Dump & Chase: Once More, With Feeling

Hockey News & Rants

Nashville Predators raise three banners at home opener | The Tennessean
The internet hates our banners, and I’m here for it.

They’re just so pretty.

…and the team didn’t look too bad either.

Nashville Predators 0, Calgary Flames 3: Preds Can’t Score in Home Opener | On the Forecheck
The Preds raised some banners, closing the book on the 17-18 season, and then welcomed 18-19 to Smashville with a disappointing dud of a hockey game.

How are you going to let a team with a generic name like “The Flames” beat you with a goalie with an even more generic name. Mike Smith…really?

A brief summary of last night in Tweets:

NHL – Nashville Predators’ chances of winning the Western Conference, Pekka Rinne’s future, most important player | ESPN
It’s still way too early to hit the panic button, last season started way rougher than this one, but still, a win would have given some of these legs to stand on.

Bridgestone Arena: Nashville Predators fans will see changes | The Tennessean
The Bridge deserved better!

Seriously, the arena looks great. Take yourself to see it.

Gold Walk, banner raising precedes Preds home opener | The Tennessean
I’m not saying down with the home opener kick-off traditions, but even that hype wasn’t enough to get the game going. The crowd wasn’t very lively either. I know it’s only the Flames but I excepted a little more.

Mental health education taking forefront in NHL, Flames view it as the next stage in player development | Calgary Sun
I think this is so important, and critical to a player’s health and safety not just in the NHL but in any sports league anywhere.

Mental health extends beyond the ice and well beyond a player’s career. The NHL should do everything they can to help them find balance during their careers and after.

Maple Leafs’ two elite lines continue high-octane play vs. Stars | SportsNet
Dallas out here literally Livin’ on a Prayer.

Fantasy Hockey: Risers and Fallers after first week of action | Yahoo Sports
Jonathan Toews is dangerous. Never underestimate him, no matter how the team around him is doing. We make fun of his contract a lot, but there is a reason Chicago doesn’t lose sleep over it.

Carter Hutton might be the only goalie in this league who’s entire highlight real is chalk full of award winning saves that his stats could never explain.

Also how is he getting better in Buffalo? I thought Buffalo is where you sent aging players and animals to “retire” gracefully.

Belfast Giants Hockey Player Denied Ass-tonishing Goal By Boring Refs | Deadspin
This is practically poetry in motion.
