Jake Livingstone Re-Signed to Two-Year Deal

The Nashville Predators announced on Tuesday that Jake Livingstone, defender, has been re-signed to a two-year deal.

Livingstone was signed as a free agent out of Minnesota State University in April. The press release said “Livingstone, 24 (4/16/99), signed with the Predators in March following a three-year career at Minnesota State University and made his NHL debut on April 6 vs. Carolina. The 6-foot-3, 205-pound blueliner went on to appear in four more NHL contests for Nashville, recording his first career NHL point (assist) on April 10 at Calgary. In five games, Livingstone averaged 15:27 of ice time, blocked 11 shots and dished out six hits.”

Livingstone has nice size, and it appears the organization is very high on him and his potential. He’s a shot blocker, clogs up lanes, and he makes opponents miserable against the wall. Check out this clip to see this in action at the NCAA level:

Livingstone was active in breakouts and neutral zone transition, too, but I’ll be interested to see how this can be developed in the NHL.

Livingstone’s contract is two-way, so he can spend time with the Admirals if the organization sees fit. He’s a righty, and he could challenge for third-pairing time this season. On the other hand, he might simply be a 7D and only be needed in the event of injury. His shot blocking seems to be one of his top skills, and this seems to line up with the team’s goal to compete in all facets of the game. This is a low-risk signing, and it could pay off for Nashville in this rebuilding period.
