Tuesday’s Dump & Chase: Winding Up

ICYMI, Jeff has been profiling some prospects before the draft on Wednesday and Thursday: Zach Benson, Gabe Perreault, and Oliver Moore.

Predators name Pekka Rinne European goaltending scout
Pekka Rinne will remain with the franchise in a new capacity.

Skill at playing doesn’t always translate to skill at coaching or analysis, but it can, and I’m excited to see what Pekka Rinne does with this new job. I’d certainly imagine anyone who played as much as he did would know what goaltending looks like, at least, which is a good start.

Thank You, Ryan Johansen
Number 92 will always have a lasting impact in #Smashville – now that he’s off to Colorado, our very own @RachelKH79 takes some time to reflect on Ryan Johansen’s time in Music City. More importantly, she’s here to say: Thank you, Joey

Rachel also took a look at Ryan Johansen’s contributions to the franchise.

2023 NHL Awards: Full list of winners
The NHL handed out its annual awards Monday night in Nashville honouring the best of the best for the 2022-23 season. Here is the list of all the winners.

It was a busy night in Nashville. Connor McDavid is going to need to add a new shelf in his garage, or maybe a new garage, at this rate.

Top NHL free agent defensemen: Orlov, Graves, Klingberg likely available
With the NHL free agent signing period beginning July 1, there are several teams in the market for a defenseman who can play top-four minutes or provide leadership in a third-pair role. NHL.com takes a closer look at the top unrestricted free agent defensemen (listed in alphabetical order):

I’m tentatively hopeful that Barry Trotz isn’t going to rush out and sign all of them.

Jason Bukala’s 2023 NHL Mock Draft: What happens after Bedard goes first?
With the NHL Draft just two days away, scout Jason Bukala takes a crack at how he thinks the first round will unfold.

This mock draft has the Preds taking Moore (as profiled by Jeff, linked above) at 15th and winger Andrew Cristall at 24th. What are your thoughts?

Source: Flyers-Canes trade held up by CBA quirk
The Flyers’ attempt to trade defenseman Tony DeAngelo back to the Hurricanes and retain some of his salary is being held up by a CBA clause, a source told ESPN.

I’m not really sure what there is to “continue to discuss” here. It sounds like the rule that you can’t trade a player, then immediately re-acquire them with salary retained, is pretty unambiguous and the Canes are trying to break it. (And for Tony DeAngelo?)

Hall, Foligno traded to Blackhawks by Bruins
Taylor Hall was traded to Chicago Blackhawks by the Boston Bruins on Monday.
